This exquisite original 1822 antique oil painting by renowned Bohemian artist Anton Bayer features a finely detailed portrait of a woman dressed in an elegant silver-lavender gown with a high Empire waist, typical of early 19th-century fashion. Her calm expression and composed posture reflect both grace and social stature.

She is depicted with a delicate lace veil and fichu, seated beside a wooden classical table, draped with a deep crimson shawl that adds a vivid contrast to the cool tones of the fabric and background. The finely rendered textures of silk, lace, wood, and skin reflect Bayer’s mastery of realism and neoclassical portrait techniques.

Set against a background of a stone column and green curtain, this piece evokes refinement and timeless beauty. This museum-quality work with her original ornate gilded frame would make a stunning addition to any fine art collection, antique interior, or gallery. Perfect for collectors of antique European portraits, lovers of Regency and Empire-era decor, and those seeking original 19th-century oil paintings.

Anton Bayer was a Bohemian painter born in 1768 and died in 1833. Known for his refined portraiture, genre scenes, landscapes, and miniatures, Bayer studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, a center of classical academic training.

Working primarily in Prague, with brief stays in Budapest (1821–1823) and Vienna (c.1825), Bayer served an elite clientele, including members of the Thun and Nostitz noble families. His work is deeply rooted in the Neoclassical tradition, often softened by the emotion and realism of Romantic art.

Bayer’s portraits are celebrated for their compositional elegance, psychological depth, and masterful treatment of material textures. He had a rare ability to capture both the external dignity and inner character of his sitters. Among his religious commissions is an altar painting at the Church of St. Gall in Radaun.

Today, his works remain treasured examples of Central European portraiture from the early 1800s, offering a window into the aesthetic and cultural values of the time.
