This vibrant oil on canvas by French artist Adeline Hugonnard features a lush and colorful still life composition centered around a gleaming copper pot. Surrounded by ripe summer fruits—grapes, peaches, apples, and halved melons—this richly textured painting bursts with color and natural abundance. The dynamic brushwork and red-checkered cloth add movement and warmth, while a muted drapery in the background enhances the depth and contrast of the scene.

Painted circa 1960, this work reflects Hugonnard’s mature style: expressive, tactile, and deeply rooted in the tradition of French regional painting. Signed in the lower right corner, the canvas remains in excellent condition. This captivating still life is ideal for collectors of mid-century French art, lovers of vintage kitchen or rustic farmhouse decor, and admirers of 20th-century still life painting.

Adeline Sophie Rosalie Hugonnard (1906–1987) was a French still life and floral painter known for her vibrant, textural works and refined brush technique. Born in Saint-Étienne, France, she was deaf and mute from birth due to a congenital condition. Despite this, she pursued formal artistic training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Étienne and began exhibiting at age 19.

Hugonnard gained early recognition for her floral paintings and still lifes, which featured undulating brushstrokes and a vivid yet intimate palette. Her work blends Impressionist influence with French regional realism, capturing everyday beauty with emotional depth.

Throughout her life, Hugonnard painted prolifically, often choosing natural subjects such as fruit, flowers, and rustic interiors. After her father’s death in 1940, she lived a reclusive life in Chauffailles, where she continued painting with dedication until her passing in 1987.

Her works are held in several public collections, including the Musée d’Art Moderne de Saint-Étienne, Centre National des Arts Plastiques (CNAP), and Musée de la Ville de Chauffailles, which honors her artistic legacy.
