In this set of six small-format landscapes entitled "Paisatges de la memòria" (landscapes of memory) Pep Camps offers a lyrical meditation on the cyclical rhythm of nature and the emotional resonance of place. Rendered with clarity and restraint, each composition captures an elemental view of the land - hills, fields, and trees - transformed by light, color, and the artist’s inner gaze.

The brushwork is soft yet purposeful, and the chromatic palette ranges from warm autumnal reds to cool twilight blues, evoking different seasons or times of day. Despite their modest scale, these works possess a powerful atmospheric presence. Their near-abstract simplicity draws the viewer into a space where memory and imagination converge.

Camps invite us to revisit the landscape not as a static backdrop, but as a living, breathing entity—one that reflects our own interior shifts. Presented together, the paintings function as visual haikus: concise, contemplative, and deeply attuned to the passage of time.

Mounted in ornate gold frames and set against a dark velvet background, the ensemble speaks to the precious, almost sacred quality of everyday observation in the hands of a mature and introspective artist. Oil on board, signed and dated 2003 back.

Pep Camps (born 1962) is a visual Spanish artist from Girona whose work delves into the complexities of memory, time, and the spiritual dimension of human experience. Though initially trained in Art History at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Camps developed his pictorial practice independently, drawing inspiration from international Pop Art and figures such as Gerhard Richter and Malcolm Morley.

His artistic language is marked by the layering of translucent imagery with gestural brushwork and techniques reminiscent of screen printing. Drawing from mass media, literature, and personal iconography, Camps combines portraits, objects, Buddhas, and landscapes to evoke subtle emotional states and reflections on the passage of time. His paintings oscillate between the figurative and the abstract, offering viewers a poetic, contemplative space.

Since the 1980s, Camps has exhibited extensively throughout Spain. His solo shows include presentations at Galería Moriarty (Madrid), Galería Denise Levy (Barcelona), and Palau de la Mercè (Girona). His work is part of several institutional and private collections, most notably the Fundació Vila Casas.

In 2022, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, the city of Girona honored him with Temps i pintura, a major retrospective spread across four cultural venues - Casa de Cultura, Fundació Fita, Casa Masó, and Centre Cultural La Mercè - featuring over 200 works spanning his career.

In addition to his studio practice, Pep Camps is also a dedicated educator at the Municipal School of Art in Girona, where he continues to inspire new generations of artists. His career stands as a testament to a lifelong commitment to painting and to the transformative power of visual art.
