Théodore Riehl – Portrait of Mme Oudart

Charming little portrait of Madame Adèle Oudart - née Delfosse - (1853-1920), mother of Blanche Henriette Broche (née Oudart). Sanguine on paper and signed with initials in the lower right corner. An annotation on the back identifies the person depicted: "portrait of Madame Oudart, mother of Madame Broche, old friend of Marianili (?)"

Théodore Guillaume Riehl was a French miniature portrait painter, born in Strasbourg (Alsace) on April 4, 1831. After settling in Paris, he studied under Eugène Letourneau. He had his studio in Montmartre and exhibited his portraits at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1864 and 1868. He died in Paris on March 3, 1913.
