French School - Roman Peasant - Circa 1840

Watercolour depicting an Italian peasant dressed in a traditional regional costume, painted around 1840. It is unsigned but has a pencil annotation "Rome" in the lower right corner. The painting bears a striking resemblance to a series of watercolour paintings by French artist Dominique Louis Auguste Papety (1815-1849) on the theme of Italian traditional costumes. Overall good condition, some mild foxing. The paper is evenly browned and is housed under glass in a wooden frame.
