Intimate interior scene representing a woman in a nightgown sitting in front of her fireplace. This unsigned oil on canvas painting has a handwritten inscription on the stretcher at the back: “de Bourgade, 144 Avenue Emile Zola, Paris”.
Augusta Leduy de Bourgade was a French painter of portraits, landscapes and seascapes. She was born on September 30, 1884 in Caudéran (Gironde) and died in Paris on October 27, 1969. She studied with Fernand Humbert at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. She exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1912 and became a member of the Society in 1920. She received a silver medal in 1931. She also exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants and the Salon des Tuileries. Her landscape paintings were mainly done in Brittany, Normandy, Alsace, Corsica, Provence and Greece.
