Beautiful oil on canvas painting depicting a view of the Seine in Paris, with the Louis Philippe bridge and in the background the Saint Gervais church in the Marais district (IV arrondissement). In the foreground, a father is fishing with his children from the wharf on Île Saint Louis. Signed on lower right and dated and titled on the verso, on the stretcher.
Adolphe Alfred Déplanches was a French painter, draughtsman and watercolourist. Born in Paris on March 7, 1887, he painted mainly landscapes, still lifes and genre scenes. He combined his artistic career with his work as an elected municipal official, being the main designer in the Directorate of Architectural Services and Paths. He exhibited at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Indépendants between 1941 and 1953. Adolphe Déplanches died in Paris on March 14, 1965 at the age of 78.
