Louis-François-Joseph Loncin was a Belgian impressionist painter, born August 29, 1875 in Durbuy (Wallonia). At the age of ten, his parents moved to Liège, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and took anatomy lessons at a veterinary institute. He exhibited regularly between 1898 and 1937, both in Belgium and at the Salon des Artistes in Paris, where in 1928 he was nicknamed "Belgian Millet", in allusion to the pre-Impressionist painter Jean-François Millet (1814-1875). He mainly painted landscapes of the Belgian Ardennes, often embellished with herds of sheep or draft horses.
