Historic portrait of an unidentified king’s guard in the foreground and two figures in the shadows beyond the door. The clothing would suggest that the era depicted is that of the reign of Henri IV in 16th century France. Oil on canvas, French school, signed lower right Greorges (or Georges) to be identified, painted around 1880. Very good condition with slight crackling in the lower left margin and traces of past restoration. Gilt wood and stucco Barbizon frame, with acanthus leaves motif.
