Small format oil on wood painting representing an isolated house on a dirt road, and in the foreground a couple on horseback, possibly travellers or pilgrims. Signed and dated 1899 lower left. This painting is mounted on acid-free cardboard and set in an attractive gilt and red velvet frame.

Andrés Gimeno was a Spanish painter settled in France. Born November 10, 1879 in La Granja de San Ildefonso (Segovia), he moved to Paris at a very young age to study painting. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Indépendants, Salon des Artistes Français, l’École Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Salon d'Automne between 1906 and 1931. He specialized in oil and pastel portraits as well as in genre scenes, in particular bullfighting scenes.

Andrés Gimeno never married and died in Paris on November 28, 1935 at the age of 56. He is buried in Thiais (Val-de-Marne), south-east of Paris.
