The Carters and their Horses – Circa 1930
Charcoal and pastel drawing of carters and their horses dragging a loaded cart through a river’s shallow waters. An equally important element in this drawing is the bridge crossing this river behind them. This bridge could be that of Muides-sur-Loire, built between 1928 and 1932, crossing the Loire in the department of Loir-et-Cher. These workers would likely be involved in its construction. Exceptional quality drawing, made around 1930, it bears the signature of an unidentified artist in the lower right corner. This work is distinguished by its original composition and magnificent execution. The carved wood Montparnasse frame is possibly original. Very decorative piece.
Illegible signature in bottom right.
