Superb oval portrait representing an elegant woman in a dark brown evening dress. Entitled "Portrait of Mme. M..", this work was exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1878. Oil on canvas recently relined and restored.

Pierre Georges Saint-Lanne was a French painter of portraits and genre scenes. He was born in Bordeaux on May 30, 1848. He studied painting at the Municipal School of his hometown and then in Paris, being a student of Díaz and Delacroix. His works were mainly done in pastel and, to a lesser extent, in oil on canvas. He regularly participated in the Paris Salon, the Salon des Indépendants and others throughout France, obtaining an honorable mention in Lille and a first prize for design at the Universal Exhibition of 1880. He was a founding member of the Salon des Artistes Girondins.

Georges Saint-Lanne died in Bordeaux on December 26, 1912, at the age of 64.
