Return from Fishing – Circa 1930

Post-impressionist oil on canvas painting representing a coastal landscape (quite possibly the coast of Provence) with some fisher boats.

Lucien Jean Ducuing was a French painter born on August 28th 1896 in Saman (Haute Garonne). After a few years spent in Lyon, he went to Paris before the 2nd World War, where he improved his drawings during evening courses. He excelled in oil paintings, portraits and landscapes. He had a contact with American galleries which gave him new direction in his career.

After the war he painted watercolour works and was asked to work abroad in places such as Stockholm and Venice. He also painted panoramas from Morocco but remained above all a painter specialized in urban scenes.

In Paris he met caricaturists like Beccarini or Socrate and crossed paths with Bernard Buffet several times. From then on, in the late 40's, Lucien Ducuing belonged to the intellectual and artistic world in Paris; it's Saint Germain period. He affirmed himself as one of the artists from Montparnasse to Montmartre.

Lucien Ducuing married four times (1921, 1948, 1953 and 1955) and died on March 13th 1958 in Paris, at the age of 62.
