Lovely pencil drawing depicting a landscape of the French countryside, with a farmer at work in a wheat field with poppies. An artist's note indicates that this is the area around Mazan, a commune in the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. Signed and dated 1960.

Jean Marie Morel was a French draughtsman, born on 17 July 1895 in Villefranche-sur-Saône (Rhône-Alpes) and died on 24 September 1966 in Montmerle (Rhône-Alpes), at the age of 71.

The son of a wallpaper merchant, he worked most of his life as a state employee in the Corps des ponts et chaussées (Public Works). Passionate about painting from an early age, he was self-taught. His small artistic work comprises mainly still lifes and landscapes of his native region and of his travels in Europe.
