An Italian Young Woman - Juan Antonio Vera Calvo - Circa 1870

Juan Antonio Vera Calvo (Seville, 1825-1905). Spanish painter. He began his training at the School of Fine Arts in Seville, where he was a disciple of Joaquín Domínguez Bécquer and subsequently, at the School of San Fernando of Madrid. In 1865 he traveled to Paris to continue his training; there he was a student of Leon Cogniet and later moved to Rome. He submitted his works to the National Fine Art Exhibitions, in which he received honorable mention in 1858, 1862 and 1864, respectively, and a bronze medal in the 1871 edition.

Several of his works are on display at the Prado Museum and Congress of Deputies in Madrid.
