Claire Demartinecourt-Modret was a French painter. Born on January 2, 1896 in Melun (Seine-et-Marne), she was the daughter of a retired infantry commander, property owner and knight of the Legion of Honour. She studied painting at the National School of Fine Arts in Dijon and exhibited in Paris at the Salon des Indépendants from 1929 onward. She mainly paints still lifes of flowers and landscapes, indiscriminately signing Demartinecourt and Demartinecourt-Modret (her maternal surname). She died in Is-sur-Tille (Burgundy) on February 16, 1981 at the age of 85.
