Beautifully executed oil on canvas painting depicting an anonymous copy of Summer by the Italian painter Guiseppe Arcimboldo (Milan, 1527-1593). Arcimboldo is famous for painting numerous portraits formed by plants, animals or artfully arranged objects, such as those from his series The Seasons and The Four Elements or his representation of Rudolph II as Vertumnus. The original work that inspired this copy is an oil on panel painting measuring 67 x 51 cm. painted by Arcimboldo in 1563, and offered to Maximilian II, Holy Roman Emperor along with the three other paintings in the series The Seasons. It is presently in the collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria.
