Sergei Alexandrovich Gavrilyachenko. Born on February 10, 1956 in Shakhty, Rostov region, Gavrilyachenko is a Russian realistic painter, muralist, art theorist, journalist and professor. A graduate of the Rostov-on-Don Pedagogical Institute (1978) and the Surikov Art Institute in Moscow (1984), he holds the recognitions of Honorary Artist of Russia, Secretary of the Artists’ Union of Russia (1989), is a member of Moscow’s Artists’ Union and a professor of the Surikov Art Institute. Throughout his career, he has garnered some of the most important Russian art awards: Lenin Komsomol Prize (1989); Diploma (1995) and Silver Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts (1997); Life Achievement medal of the Russian Academy of Arts (2004); the Order of St. Sergius of Radonezh, Third Class, of the Russian Orthodox Church (2006). His works are on display in many State institutions and private collections: the Vyatka Art Museum (Kirov); the State Museum Preserve Rostov Kremlin; the Sergiyev Posad State History and Art Museum Preserve; the State Borodino War and History Museum and Reserve; the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation; the Russian Artists’ Union; Art Prima Gallery; private collections in Russia and abroad. He has participated in numerous international art exhibitions.
