Côte d'Azur seascape, near Marseille. Sitting on the rock, a figure waves to a couple of fishing boats near the shore.
Nöel-Sauveur Canepa was born in Bastia (Corsica) on December 1, 1885. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, where he was a pupil of Jean-Frédéric Canepa (1894-1981), probably a family relative but not his brother. Noel Canepa was a painter specializing in Côte d'Azur seascapes, his usual technique being palette knife painting. His works appear in numerous private collections in France and the United States. He died in Marseille on August 13, 1965.
Note: Our research in various archives in France allows us to confirm the biographical data of Nöel Canepa examined here. The numerous information on the Internet indicating his date of birth (1935) and that he was the brother of Jean-Frédéric Canepa is erroneous.
