Abel Boyé - Portrait of an Elderly Peasant Woman - 1902

Portrait of an elderly peasant woman from the French region of Gascony. Pastel painting on paper. This work, entitled "Vieille Gasconne" by the artist, was presented at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1902.

Abel Dominique Boyé was a French painter, born May 6, 1864 in Marmande, where he also died in 1934.

Painter of figures, historic scenes, nudes, genre scenes and portraits, he was a pupil of Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant. He started exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1884 and obtained a 3rd class medal in 1888. In 1895 he garnered the gold medal and a travel grant from the Ministry of Public Instruction and Fine Arts. He also exhibited at the Universal Exhibition of Paris in 1889 and 1900, and in Barcelona, Brussels, London, Geneva and Lyon. He was decorated with the Legion of Honour in 1902.

His works are on display in various museums including in Bordeaux, Agen and Narbonne.
