Roger Houck – The Old Mill – Circa 1960

Categories: ,

Roger Ernest Houck was a French painter, born on October 22, 1899 in Alfortville (Seine). He painted landscapes and seascapes, mainly from Normandy, Brittany and the Marne. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Independants from 1928 to 1974 and at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1925 to 1943. He died on September 27, 1974 in Stains (Seine).

Radiant landscape painting representing an old water mill in a peaceful, natural setting. Despite its tranquil appearance, this image appears to be alive with movement, first from the mill wheel churning water on the still stream, but one can almost hear the breeze through the trees and see the clouds slowly floating by. This image very much appeals to the senses.
