Antoinette Raoux – Portrait of a Woman with Lowered Eyes

Portrait of a young woman, drawn with pencil and pastels on browned paper.

Antoinette Raoux was a French artist working mainly with pastels and watercolours. She was born in Paris on August 27, 1872 into a well-to-do family of doctors. She was a pupil of Marie Carpentier (1876-1915), Marie d’Anglars (1832-1911) and Diogène Maillart (1840-1926). She participated in the Salon of French artists in 1898, 1899, 1901, 1903, 1905 and 1910. Apart from these few dates, we know little about the career of this artist.

Antoinette Raoux died at her family home located at 41 rue des Martyrs (9th arrondissement) on May 17, 1928 at the age of 56 years. She never married.
